Jun. 22, 1993 - Laughter The Best Medicine © by Shirley W. Mitchell, Lifestyles - Lace Over Steel™
Grandmother Pearl was brushing her teeth one morning. Her three-year-old grandson, Jake, came into the bathroom.
Looking around the room, Jake observed his grandmother's wig lying on the toilet seat. He noticed his grandmother's partial plate of teeth resting on the sink. When Jake picked up his grandmother's glasses off the counter, he put his hand on his hip and asked, "Grandmother, may I ask you a question?"
"Yes," grandmother responded. "What is your question. Jake?" "
Grandmother, does your nose come off, too?" Grandmother laughed a hearty laugh!
As we age, filling our life with love and laughter will light a candle in the darkness of aging. Humor will help defuse stress. Into every life, stressful situations will fall! The next time you are faced with a stressful situation, say to yourself, "What would my favorite cartoon character do? How would Bart Simpson handle this crisis?" If you pause and chuckle, you might brighten your day.
Wise Old King Solomon said, "A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones."
In the decade of the '90's, a large number of health professionals believe in laughter and a positive attitude as part of continuing good health.
"The tune in one's heart helps to determine the tone of one's health." Leroy Brownlow

Jul. 20, 1993 - Don't Worry About Gray Hairs © by Shirley W. Mitchell, Lifestyles - Lace Over Steel™
The T-shirt moved past me on the back of perky 70-year-old author of three books, Dorothea Nyberg. It shouted, "IT TOOK 70 YEARS TO LOOK THIS GOOD!" Dorothea is a spiritual, vivacious, entertaining author and speaker.
As I interviewed her, I caught a glimpse of an ageless woman. Her charisma and enthusiasm for life did not stem from a perfect life. In fact, one of her claims to fame Is: "Magna Cum Laude Graduate of the School of Hard Knocks." Through the life's struggle of raising a rebellious adopted son and caring for a paralyzed mother, Dorothea grew more intimate with God.
Out of this intimacy, she wrote three books, "We Still Love You, Bob," "Help For Families With a Problem Child" and Life Supthing to the 50-plus woman of the '90s, what would it be?"
She stared out into space and thought. Her eyes brightened as she answered my question. "Don't worry about the gray hairs. They are a sign of experience and maturity."
At that moment, a wonderful truth set up residence in my heart. My paradigm (par-a-dime) for living life has been shifted from number of years to the realm of eternal living.
Dr. Joel Barker, author of "Future Edge," informs me that the word paradigm is define* "a set of rules and regulations (either explicit or Implicit) that: 1) defines boundaries; 2) tells you what to do to be successful within those boundaries. Success is measured by being able solve problems with the rules." All revolutionary change is a paradigm shift.
As the first of the baby boomers migrate into the second half of life, the senior boom will begin. The AGE WAVE is coming. This paradigm shift is pushing society to a new image aging. We are changing our paradigm from number of years to quality of life.

Aug. 10, 1993 - 'More Than Conquerors' Story About Christians © by Shirley W. Mitchell, Lifestyles - Lace Over Steel™
"More Than Conquerors," (Portraits of believers from all walks of life) is a new book published by Moody Bible Institute that will empower you with vision, determination and strength.
"More Than Conquerors," is a collection of treasured stories about sixty giant Christians that have touched all our lives - such as Abraham Lincoln, Corrie ten Boom, Billy Graham, Chuck Colson and Elizabeth Dole.
Mr. Les Keylock, writer and professor, wrote the section on Cyrus McCormick, "Bringing in the Sheaves."
One of my hobbies is collecting autographed books. Mr. Keylock autographed my book with a personal note, "Keep growing -Phil 1:9,10A." This scripture verse gave me a key to being courageous and victorious in my daily life. "And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; That ye may approve things that are excellent!..."
Through the book "More Than Conquerors," I have been inspired to choose the best. I have been set on a new path, "The Pursuit of Excellence." The role models in this great book possessed several common traits. (1) They prayed that God would orchestrate their lives from heaven. (2) They relied upon the Bible as a lamp to their feet and a light to their path. (3) They had great confidence in the Lord's grace and power. (4) Total commitment to the Lord Jesus Christ.

Sure, you can be a "Nifty at Fifty" '90's woman! Individual elegance demonstrates your beauty, style and shouts "I'm Interesting!" Your own individual taste, lifestyle and body shape will determine which style of chick wrappings you will choose.
Living in America, we have simply divine clothes form which to choose. Creating the look you desire can be fun and rewarding. Department stores have professional people who are delighted to help you find the garments and accessories that are absolutely right for you.
Make color work for you. Learn the colors that bring out your eyes and skin tones. Wear the colors that reflect your mood. Bright colors create excitement and tend to make women look younger. Our role model from God's Word "the virtuous woman" made her clothing of purple linen. "She is a woman of strength and dignity, and has no fear of old age." (Proverbs 31: 25 The Living Bible) Vibrant colors create excitement and put pizzazz into the life of the over-50 woman.
Let this optimism continue to flow as you choose just the right shoes and purse to enhance your look and lifestyle. Go for it! After you have all the fashion essentials, let your imagination and creativity run wild! With great fashion sense, you can make your appearance work for you. Make the most of who you are. This could be a dawning of a new you. Make your own personal fashion statement.
Your signature for becoming the ageless stylish woman is to be squeaky clean, meticulously groomed and dress in your own personal style.
