James Upchurch, M.D., was born, married, and educated in Birmingham, Alabama. After graduating from the Medical College of Alabama, Dr. Upchurch served four years in the U.S. Air Force as a lieutenant and then a captain.
      Following his military service, Dr. Upchurch finished a residency in OB-GYN and now has practiced 32 years in Birmingham. He has published several articles in medical journals including American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology and also produces medical video tapes for the education of patients and physicians.
      His four grown children are living in Texas and Alabama, but there are no grandchildren yet.
      Dr. Upchurch will soon complete the third edition of “So You Need a Hysterectomy! Now Learn All About It,” a 90-minute video to educate patients about hysterectomy.
